Thank you for visiting our site! This page is intended to allow visitors to see some of the most frequently asked question or comments about our Diruneutra product. If you have a question regarding Diruneutra or passivation in general that is not addressed below, you can contact us at 877-823-7911 for a specific discussion of your application and questions.
Q) How can your product save me money over conventional passivation methods?
A) UltraClean Technicians are trained in using the product and can perform the services on site as any other company offering derouging and passivation. However, one of the key features of this product is the option to use your personnel to perform the service as part of your maintenance schedule and not having to use outside labor.
By training your personnel to use the Diruneutra product, you can eliminate outside contractors accomplishing two things, a.) the cost is reduced considerably, actually making the product less expensive than standard de-rouging methods being compared with; b.) the ability to perform the process on your schedule without having to coordinate with outside contractor availability.
The chemistry being used is a "GREEN" product which is not only safe for those performing the services but will not damage floors or equipment should there be any spills. Diruneutra is also safe for the environment which eliminates the cost of expensive hazardous waste disposal methods.
Here are some comparisons:
Diruneutra
- Offers pH-neutral derouging
- No risk to damage the surface such as etching electropolished finishes using harsh chemicals
- Use of quality chemical products which are manufactured GMP fair in accordance to ISO 9001
- Fully validatable and traceable process
- Short process time
- Inexpensive waste disposal
- Customers personnel can be trained to safely perform the process as part of their standard procedures
Standard De-Rouging Methods:
- Utilizes strong acid solutions. These offer:
- Hazardous processes –
- Long process time (up to 24 hours),
- Risk to etch the surface,
- Big heavy metal load in the cleaning solution,
- Expensive waste disposal
- Pickling processes offer:
- Hazardous processes,
- Surface etching,
- Manual process, therefore is not validatable and traceable process,
- Expensive waste disposal
- Sodium Hydrosulfite A.K.A. Sodium Dithionite (typically used for derouging) processes offer:
- Hazardous, due to the SO2 formation, -
- Strong offensive smell, -
- Uncontrollable formation of insoluble Fe(III)-Sulfates (encrustation).
Q) Will Diruneutra to remove “Black” rouge?
A) Unfortunately no. However if you have a mixture of black and red rouge on the steels surface, we have had very good success with rouge removal in WFI water stills and clean steam distribution systems. The result is never 100% removal of rouge in these types of applications. In a steam distribution system, we can remove the red particles which results in about 90% total rouge removal. We do however have the ability to remove black rouge by using our ElectroChemical Cleaning (ECC)SM process. Click on ElectroChemical Cleaning in the gray box at the top of this page for more information.
Q) What is the shelf-life for the product ?
A) The kits contain three components which require mixing in order to activate the product. Prior to mixing the kits have a stock shelf life of up to 24 month from the manufacturing date.
Q) What is the shelf-life of the product after it has been mixed?
A) Depending upon the environmental conditions the active life after the product is mixed is up to 12 hours. It is recommended to use the product as soon as possible after mixing.
Q) I have a small vessel that does not require a full kit of 250 Liters. Is there any problem with using only a part of a kit?
A) No, there is no issue with using only part of a kit as long as the ratio of Diruneutra liquid to powder remains constant. The ratio of liquid to powder needs to be 5L to 1.5P. For ease, we recommend the minimum to be mixed be ½ of the kit or 2.5 liters of Diruneutra LIQ and 1 bottle (750 grams) of Diruneutra P. It is very important that the ratio Diruneutra LIQ / Diruneutra P is always the same. Please fill the vessel with the maximum water you can (80 - 90%) before you add the product and then top off the vessel with 80°C water.
Q) Will exposure to a Hydrogen Peroxide solution after rinsing provide sufficient “passivation”? I’m trying to avoid producing any waste that cannot go to sewer.
A) Using a Hydrogen Peroxide solution as an oxidizer for passivation will increase the Cr/Fe ratios to acceptable levels for a good passive surface. Please refer to the Passivation section below for further information regarding passivation after the use of Direneutra.
Q) Since we are going to make up ½ of the volume will the unused parts of the kit remain stable for future use?
A) During the manufacturing process the Diruneutra P is packaged under a nitrogen atmosphere. Once opened the kits should be used as soon as possible as the components may start to breakdown upon contact with oxygen. As stated previously, the kit is comprised of three components. Of these components once opened the LIQ and NS bottles once opened will still be usable up to the original 24 months from the manufacturing date. The P bottle, once opened, will break down and should be used as soon as possible. Each kit contains two P bottles, therefore it is possible to mix up 1/2 of the kit while leaving 1/2 of the kit for future use.
Q) Your literature states Diruneutra is a neutral pH derouging chemical. Is this true?
A) Yes, the Diruneutra product is designed to work in a range from 6 – 8 pH. We have found this gives a much better result in shorter process times than all known to date acid cleaning solutions.
Q) MSDS sheet indicates gloves and eye protection should be worn. Is any of these components dangerous to people?
A) There is no significant danger, however, precautions should be taken to minimize exposure and the MSDS sheets should be thoroughly understood before use.
Q) Does the Diruneutra process give off any smell during the process?
A) It is our experience that a minimal, but not unpleasant odor can be emitted from the product during the process.
