Mechanical Polishing

Mechanical Polishing Process

Mechanical Polishing is a hand sanding process used to remove scratches gouges and other damage from the surface of material using various forms of abrasive media.  The media is applied to the surface using hand held power equipment resulting in surfaces compliant with the ASME-BPE surface finish standards.

Mechanical polishing is the primary method used to obtain Ra (roughness average) values set forth in customer specifications.  Mechanical polishing can be left as a final finish but does little to improve corrosion resistance of the steel surface.

Typical services for equipment utilizing a mechanical polished finish is food and dairy applications.  The mechanical polishing process is often a precursor to additional finishing process such as electropolishing.
